Many months of donations have developed a strong revenue stream that has given us the confidence to begin moving away from Mozilla-hosted infrastructure, and to hire a staff to support this process. So the Thunderbird Council arranged to collect donations from our users, with the Mozilla Foundation as fiscal sponsor. In parallel, Thunderbird worked to develop a revenue stream, which would be needed regardless of an eventual home. Many meetings and conversations were held with organizations such as TDF and SFC to determine their suitability as potential homes, or models to build on. Over the past year, the Council has thoroughly discussed the needs of a future Thunderbird team, and focused on investigating the non-Mozilla organizations as a potential future home. Since then the Thunderbird Council, the governing body for the Thunderbird project, has worked to determine the most appropriate long term financial and organizational home, using the Phipps report as a starting point.

The Phipps report saw three viable choices for the Thunderbird Project’s future home: the Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC), The Document Foundation (TDF) and a new deal at the Mozilla Foundation. To investigate potential new homes for Thunderbird, Mozilla commissioned a report from Simon Phipps, former president of the OSI. Mozilla Foundation will serve as a fiscal sponsor for Thunderbird donations during this time. They all have uBO, Greasemonkey and Stylish installed or a webext equivalent, plus other extensions. Not including IE11, I have 5 browsers installed. Can’t decide if Mozilla should be praised for the improvement or cursed for taking so long, I’m leaning towards both. I personally didn’t think it would ever happen because it’s been so long. Nightly is finally after many years the first version of FF to match or exceed Pale Moon in startup time. Right now the difference is kind of substantial. About a year after FF v3 was released Pale Moon was released and from that day the difference in browser startup time and memory use has steadily grown over the years.

Started using FF the day v3 was released and startup time has steadily deteriorated since then, unless of course you are fortunate enough to have had a significant hardware upgrade every other year.
I’ve noticed with Nightly that Mozilla has FINALLY made some progress improving startup time.
At that point when Mozilla Firefox finally transforms into Mozilla Chrome, Google Chrome will still be the better Chrome and people will still use it.įirefox lost The Browser War long ago, now they’re shooting themselves in the foot, just like Microsoft are with their disaster called Windows 10. Everyone is using Chrome now, only a few people still use Firefox and that’s because of specific add-ons that won’t work in 57. The Mozzilla team decided they need to renovate their browser too little too late and at a great cost. Yesterday I tried Vivaldi, when I was playing a game, Vivaldi couldn’t even respond when I was switching/creating tabs, nothing like this in Chrome. Whenever I used Chrome, it’s lighning fast, under whatever strain my computer is in. I’m using Pale Moon to write this in case you get any funny ideas.įirefox only recently started to improve, in version 55 of Chrome, they reduced memory usage by 30%Ĭhrome 60 is also about to arrive with performance improvements.
